Okie, yes, I am back now! Wah... sleepy sia... Didn't realise I was so tired that I could wake up at 11 today (once upon a time, it was a rarity). Nvmlah... I was probably making up for my 5-hrs of sleep every night. Anyhow.
With aching feet we made our way to Shaw House for dinner and deliberated over our food while thinking of what to do next. By that time, it was past 9.30 pm and most of the shops were closed. But that didn't deter us from making our way to Wisma Atria just to look² see². (It was at the underpass towards Orchard MRT where I saw (and talked to)
Maori lah... and he looked good! In my
totally unbiased opinion!!)
Now
that cd have been the highlight of the night for me, but the real highlight came later.
My colleague, Clara, knew of a club @ The Amara that plays salsa tunes and Friday is ladies' night. So there we went... and
fwah!! Such an eye-opener experience! I love it! Haha...
It's definitely not like any normal club. In normal clubs, you have a mass of dancers on the floor gyrating wildly to the music. No skills required. And you'll have guys somehow making their way next to you and the next thing you know you're dancing with them. But it's a very individualistic thing. Most of the time you're so self-absorbed (or high, or in some cases, too drunk) to really care abt your surroundings.
At the salsa club, you see highly-skilled dancers twirling and moving apart and together again. Over and over again. An observer probably wdn't be able to tell or anticipate the next moves. Wch was why we had some difficulty getting over to the bar as we had to cross the dance floor first. (Oh yeah, btw the dancers are allowed to dance
anywhere except near the pool table.)
So this is what happens in a salsa club. Random strangers will come up to you and ask you for a dance. And then all the couples will converge on the dance floor, show off their fancy moves, and disperse once again when the music ends. And then re-group. And continue.
It was so exciting to watch and the atmosphere was simply great! Salsa clubs have been featured on TV before, but it's simply different when you're there to experience it for yourself! And the interesting thing was that each dancer has its own preferred individual moves, and when you pair up with another person, each couple comes up with unique (and usually unplanned) moves. I love it!
Heh, yeah well... enough raving abt it. Hopefully this wun be my last visit there lah... but hopefully the next time I go there again, it'd be with some skill level, haha...
